What is recorded here
On top of high ground in a mountainous region with good extensive views in all directions. Slight rectangular-shaped rise of ground (dims. 8m N-S; 10m E-W) defined by a scarp (H 0.1m) which is intersected by an earthen field boundary at the N and by a stone wall, constructed of large stones, at the W. Neither field boundary is depicted on the 1st ed. (1840) OS 6-inch map. The megalithic structure may have been destroyed when the field boundaries were constructed, possibly using stones from the megalith. It is marked 'Giants grave' on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map. The Name Book of 1840 calls the feature an 'ancient cromlech' and the 1904 Name Book refers to an 'ancient stone bed' (De Valera & Ó Nualláin 1982, vol.4, 99).
