This blue commemorative plaque records: The 1854 Fire The site of Wilson's worsted factory which caught fire early on the 6th October 1854. The fire spread to a chemical warehouse which exploded. The Quaysides on both sides of the river suffered severe damage. 53 died. Recorded plaque organisation: Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council.
