What is recorded here

Gateway, extant 1871, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of benchmark-inscribed margined rock faced limestone ashlar piers having margined rock faced cut-limestone capping supporting wrought iron double gates. Street fronted at entrance to grounds of Kilkenny County Infirmary.
A gateway forming part of a self-contained group alongside an adjacent gate lodge (see 12000198) with the resulting ensemble making a pleasing visual statement in John's Green at the entrance on to the grounds of Kilkenny County Infirmary: meanwhile, a benchmark remains of additional interest for the connections with cartography and the preparation of maps by the Ordnance Survey (established 1824).

This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
