Park Castle, also called Cooltymurraghy Castle, rose near Kiltormer in the late 1400s as an O’Kelly stronghold. The clan lost it to Sir John Crofton in 1570, recovered it in 1596 after his death, and kept it until Oliver Cromwell’s forces took it in the 1650s. Now only fragments remain on private land, yet those broken walls still hint at the wars, tenants and abandonment that shaped east Galway.
