Illaunamid

Islet

What is recorded here

Illaunamid is a rocky islet off Slyne Head where George Halpin built two lighthouses in 1836 to warn ships away from the Atlantic rocks. The taller tower still stands beside the ruined companion, both surrounded by walled compounds and keeper houses made from island stone. The site has witnessed construction tragedy and decades of storms, yet its light has guided Galway coast traffic for over 170 years.
Illaunamid is recorded as a islet in County Galway. Its open map record supplies this location and any linked names or public references.
