Esker Grave Yard

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Esker Grave Yard is a cillín, an unmarked children's burial ground hidden in the northeast corner of a Galway pasture. The 1838 map showed a small walled rectangle, but the 1944 revision erased the wall and shifted the shape into a triangle, proving that the land itself was already forgetting the boundary. The children never needed headstones because the cillín belonged to the margin, where the church turned away and the field took them back. What remains is a level patch of grass that resists identification, yet the name endures in local memory, carrying the dead forward without proof or praise.
Esker Grave Yard is a graveyard in County Galway, Ireland.
