Doonbally Castle

Ten-tonne limestone blocks still lie scattered across the Galway hills, their mortar holding firm against centuries of rain. They belong to Doonbally Castle, standing in 1574 under Thomas Balve before a violent end reduced it to these massive fragments. The stones survived because local tradition claims animal blood was mixed into the binding material. What looks like ruin is actually a transformed boundary marker, preserving the shape of human ambition through unexpected durability rather than forgetting it.
