Fulacht fia in Aghawinnaun

Adjacent to a spring well, on a narrow terrace towards the base of the NW-facing slope of Gortaclare Mountain. The spring issues from the base of the low bedrock scarp which backs the SE side of the terrace. Indicated on the 1916 OS 6-inch map as a small circular hachured feature with the symbol for a well immediately to the SW. A compact horseshoe-shaped mound (c. 16m NW-SE; 14.5m NE-SW; H 0.8-1.2m at E-SE; 1.4-1.5m at W-NW) with a shallow, central U-shaped depression (L 4m NE-SW; Wth 2.5-3m at SW) opening to SW onto the source of the spring, which now flows past the mound to NNW. The mound is composed of a dense concentration of heat-shattered limestone fragments in a matrix of black, charcoal-rich soil; this burnt material is exposed in parts where the thin sod cover on the mound has been eroded. A number of large stones/boulders protrude from the SW arm of the mound.
