What is recorded here

Placed inside the S doorway of Rath church (CL025-084001-) and reused as a stoup. These are the remains of what would have been a free-standing font with a circular basin. The basin (diam. 0.34m; D 0.23m) has chamfered edges, sloping sides and a drain-hole. The font exterior is square (ext. dims. 0.43m x 0.43m) and bevels in on all sides to what must have been a central column. Just beneath the font in the doorway is another stone with a circular shallow hollow (diam. 0.13m) that would have formed part of the base. One corner of the font seems to have been cut out at some stage and replaced. The following images have been uploaded: CL025-084010-_01.jpg Font interior.
