Leuchars Castle rose as a medieval motte near Leuchars, Fife, before stone walls replaced earth and English raids broke them in 1327. It survived Murray’s siege in 1337, changed again in the 16th century, and disappeared in the 20th, leaving only a doocot to mark the place where kings, soldiers and birds once shared the same sky.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Leuchars Castle as Motte (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Leuchars Castle, a medieval motte, was likely built in the 12th or 13th century, during the period of Norman influence in Scotland. It is remembered as an example of early military architecture and as part of the defensive landscape of the Scottish Borders.
