Crail

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Crail as Findspot (period Unassigned), Finger Ring (silver)(medieval), Harness Pendant (copper Alloy)(medieval), Pilgrim Badge (lead Alloy)(medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1km. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Crail is associated with Saint Fillan, a 7th-century Irish monk and healer, and its holy well was traditionally visited for its curative properties, particularly for eye ailments and skin conditions. Pilgrimages to the site were common, and the discovery of medieval pilgrim badges suggests its significance as a place of spiritual and physical healing in the medieval period.
