Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Balfarg as Cist (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Balfarg is a Neolithic stone circle and cist burial site, dating to approximately 2500–2000 BCE. It is significant as one of the best-preserved Neolithic ceremonial and funerary sites in the East of Scotland.
