Newark Castle is a ruined 15th-century tower built by the Kinloch family just west of St Monans, its upper floors collapsed while vaulted cellars remain hidden beneath the coast. David Leslie, later Lord Newark, owned it until his death in 1682, after which it passed through the Anstruther and Baird families. Sir William Burrell once sought to restore it with Sir Robert Lorimer, but a local owner refused to sell, leaving the stones exposed to the North Sea instead of becoming a polished museum.
