Mountcastle Quarry in Fife is a modern sand and gravel pit where excavation revealed a complete late Neolithic Grooved Ware vessel and a penannular ring-ditch. The clay basin holds vessels from centuries before written record, waiting beneath gravel and machine traffic. What the quarry takes from the earth, it returns in fragments that force us to imagine the hands which shaped them.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Mountcastle Quarry as No Class (event) (21st Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
