Balcomie Castle stands as a wind-tight sixteenth-century tower house where the Learmonth family bled wealth and lives until Robert died in debt in 1696. The structure retains two squarish towers joined by a corbelled stair, while a later mansion extends northward beside the working farm. Mary of Guise likely witnessed an earlier version during her 1535 landing, but the surviving stones record only the stubborn continuity of a house that outlived its builders.
