This blue commemorative plaque records: Carnegie Birthplace On 25th November 1835, Andrew Carnegie was born in this humble 17th century weaver's cottage. The Carnegie family lived in one room upstairs and another family lived in the adjoining cottage. The adjacent Memorial Hall (by architect James Shearer) was added in 1928.
Andrew Carnegie was a pioneering industrialist and philanthropist who played a crucial role in the development of the American steel industry; he is remembered for his significant contributions to public libraries and various charitable causes worldwide.
