What is recorded here

In the vicinity of church (GA042-122001-). Aerial reconnaissance in June 1967 (CUCAP ATF 33) brought to light a series of large rectangular fields (GA042-122003-) defined by low banks. An apparently coeval trackway (GA042-122004-) was noted running NE-SW for c. 500m and appears to have run very close to the church. An irregular enclosure (GA042-12204-) was also noted immediately to N of the church. No visible surface trace of the latter survives as the area was levelled when the adjacent graveyard was extended. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
