Wall monument in Fethard

Inserted in the S face of the S wall of the chancel of the Augustinian abbey (TS070-040004-) near the E gable. A limestone plaque, defined by a plain border, bears the arms of St John. The shield is rectangular with a slightly ogival base. The field is of ermine and charged with a chief on which are three mullets (Crotty 2012, 51-2). The crest, a falcon rising, stands upon a wreath resting on a closed helm with mantling. The supports are two monkeys. Below is the inscription: THE ARMES OF ST. JOHN.
