What is recorded here

Limited excavation of the town wall immediately S of the Barrack St gate produced pottery of late 13th/early 14th century which appears to be contemporary with the town wall (Moran 1995, 81). This excavation also exposed pre-wall features, including two opposite rows of three stakeholes, the stakeholes being c. 0.2-0.3m apart and the rows being c. 0.4-0.5m apart, running at a right angle (E-W) to the town wall (ibid.). Whether the stakeholes continued beyond the limit of the excavation was not established but their arrangement suggests they were part of a structure.
