Graveslab in Fethard

Davis White (1892, 99) refers to a graveslab which was in the graveyard (TS070-040031-) of the medieval parish church of St John the Baptist (TS070-040001-), currently Holy Trinity C of I church. According to his description, from Rev. R. H. Long, it was 'In the Church yard at extreme end of ruin (that is outside east window of ancient chancel)' and is described as follows, 'In the centre a cross upon which is engraved 'Salvator Mundi'. Long (1907-09, 179) transcribed the inscription as: HIC JACET JACOBUS / EVERARD BURGENSIS / HUJUS OPPIDI QUI / OBIIT DEC 1667 / CUJUS UXOR / ANASTATIA DONAGHUE / ME FIERI FECIT 1667. Knowles (1903, 131-2) also notes this graveslab and gives the translation of the latin inscription as, 'Here lies Don James Everard, Burgess of this Town, who died in December, 1667.
