Graveslab in Fethard

In the graveyard (TS070-040044-) of the Augustinian abbey (TS070-040004-), standing against the external E wall of the N transept. This slab (H above ground 1.33m; Wth 0.86m; average T 0.11m) has a chamfer along the sinister edge (Wth 0.03m) and an undercut chamfer (Wth 0.12m), the lower portion of the slab is buried in the ground (Maher 1997, 57). The decorated surface, which is quite faded, is described by Maher (ibid.) as consisting of 'a seven-armed segmental crss in relief with fleur-de-lis terminals. Two simple cross-bands occur at the base of the cross-head, surmounting the cross-shaft. An inscription in Black Letter commences on the dexter border and continues between it and the cross-shaft.
