This blue commemorative plaque records: Turret House stood on this site until 1956. It was built in 1769 for the officer commanding the guard at Portchester Castle. A turret was built on the house for signalling to the Castle. Recorded plaque organisation: Portchester Society.
Turret House, erected in 1769, served as a residence for the officer overseeing security at nearby Portchester Castle; its distinctive turret facilitated communication between the house and the castle through signaling.
