Airth Castle stands on a sharp hill above the Carse of Falkirk, watching the river crossing and the old road to Stirling. It began as a timber stronghold for a native leader, later became a royal burgh focus, and still shows in the gothic hotel built into its remains. The view explains why people kept returning: food, trade, defence and pride all met at that narrow neck of land.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Airth Castle as Policies (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Airth Castle was built by the Drummonds in the 14th century and later held by the Crichtons. It is remembered for its strategic position near the Roman Wall and its role in the defense of the Scottish border.
