Airth Castle stands on a fifteen-metre hill above the Pow of Airth, projecting feudal power across the Carse of Falkirk and commanding the Forth Estuary crossing. The late medieval burgh formed at the coastal waist below the hill, replacing an earlier settlement on the ridge, while the castle itself loomed over the main route north toward Stirling. David Hamilton filled the castle’s open L-shape for the Grahams in the early nineteenth century, creating the triangular hotel face still visible today. Rooms and stairways may have followed ancient paths marked by Roman objects and Iron Age lamps, carrying the same traffic of trade, tribute and invasion that the hill has watched since before written memory.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Airth Castle as Castle (medieval), Hotel (20th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Airth Castle was originally built in the 13th century by the de Moravia family, later held by the Earls of Moray. It is remembered for its strategic position in central Scotland and its later use as a hotel in the 20th century.
