Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Cragballyconoal

Cragballyconoal holds a subrectangular stone ringfort roughly nineteen by twenty-one metres, its rounded corners still visible above the Clare ground. People have called it a fairy fort, perhaps because the shape resists ordinary explanation or because the stones seem to belong less to human ambition than to older, stranger occupancy. Whether it was a cashel, a boundary marker, or a forgotten household, the structure still occupies space with confidence.
