Fairy forts are misnamed because people feared or marvelled at what they did not understand. A ringfort is a human fortress: a stone wall, a ditch, and a gate built to keep neighbours out and family safe. The fairy label comes later, when the true purpose faded and the shape became strange.

According to Bowman (1934, 245) stone fort once stood on hill named 'Cathairin'. Exact location not known. Tradition of Man-made underground passages (CO040-142---) associated with site.
