What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not literal fairy homes, but they are real ancient places, often ring ditches or stone banks left behind when people stopped living there. The name comes later, when the true purpose had faded and imagination moved in. That is what makes them interesting: memory withdrew, and wonder stepped into the gap.
