Fairy fort / ringfort in Doora

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Located in pasture on the E-facing slope of a drumlin. A subircular embanked enclosure (ext. dims c. 50m NW-SE; c. 40m NE-SW) described as a ‘Fort’ is represented on the 1835 edition of the OS 6-inch map and a hachured feature is depicted on the 1907 edition. A small field remains but no archaeological evidence of what is probably a rath is visible at ground level. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload/revision: 15 December 2011 Amended: 6 January 2020
