Fairy forts are not fairy forts at all, but human ringforts misnamed through centuries of invention. In Rinneen, a true earthen ring stood on a gentle ridge until about 1950, when people levelled it and reused its stones for an ordinary wall. The fort disappeared, but part of it reappeared in the wall, carrying old shape into a new human purpose.

On a gentle NE-SW ridge in pasture with higher ridges of coarse boggy grassland to the NE and SW. Hachured as a rath on the 1840 and 1916 OS 6-inch maps. Listed as ‘Earthwork’ in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). According to local information this site, which consisted of a ‘ring of earth and stones’ was levelled c. 1950. It had been roughly the same size as adjacent forts (CL023-020----; CL023-022---- and CL023-046----). A stone wall at the site was apparently built using stones from the bank.
