What is recorded here
Knockanaddoge holds a broken circular fort on the eastern slopes of the Deen valley, its wide ditches and earthen banks reduced to shallow traces after later removal. The main platform still stands thirty-seven metres across, facing west and south through two narrow gaps while the east is blocked by rising land. Carrigan wrote that a hidden passage led west from the fort, and two hollows on the south side may mark the place where that passage collapsed. The fort is no longer a complete fortress, but it still shows the shape of the choice made there: a small held place set between two valleys, with one side closed and the other left open to be seen.
On the E slopes of Deen valley and to the N of the upper Dinin valley, in rolling grassland. There are good views except to E where it is limited by rising ground. A roughly circular platform (max. dims. 37m N-S; 35m E-W) defined by traces of a slight bank (Wth 1.8m; int. H 0.2-0.3m; ext. H 1.6m), wide flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 4.5m), earthen bank (Wth 5m; int. H 1.7m; ext. H 1.4m), fosse (Wth 5m) and the remnants of a much-degraded outer bank (Wth 2m; int. H 1.4m; ext. H 1m). The fosse and outer bank were largely removed in the 1980s, only a short length in the NE sector survives. There are two possible original entrances, one at the SE (Wth 2m) and the other at the W (Wth 2m), with a modern gap (Wth 1m) in the NE. Within the interior there are two hollows on the S side which may be indicating a collapsed Man-made underground passage (KK010-026002-) as according to Carrigan (1905, vol. 2, 163), ‘A passage leading from it to the west was discovered not many years ago’.
