Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

On a terrace on a hillslope, in rolling grassland with good views. A roughly circular area (int. dims. 26m E-W, 25m N-S) enclosed by a wide rocky bank (Wth at crest 2m; overall Wth c. 4m; int. H c. 1m; ext. H c. 1.4m) and external fosse (Wth 2.5m; D c. 0.4m) from W-SW-S. The fosse is filled in in the N and E sectors. There are traces of an outer bank (Wth 1.5m; H 0.2m) at S, though this is probably modern. The 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map shows a quarry (diam. c. 27m) adjacent to the SW sector. There is an entrance (Wth c. 1m) and causeway (Wth 6m) across the fosse at W. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 5 February 2018
