Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Curraghmore West

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mortons and company wrote the account, but the earth may have been shaping the hill long before human hands. The fort stands in Curraghmore West as a possible rath, its boundary blurred enough to invite imagination yet distinct enough to resist forgetting. What is certain is that the ground marked itself, and people later learned to read the mark rather than impose their own.
See field inspection report (diary NF6, 126-9) (SMR file). This record was formerly classed as an 'enclosure' in both the SMR (1990) and the RMP (1997). Following a site inspection, this record has been changed to 'rath possible'.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
