What is recorded here

Fairy forts are misnamed: they are human ringforts, built and abandoned before fairy tales existed to fill the vacancy. This one in Carhoon stands on a low hill above marshy ground, its inner bank and ditch still drawing a clear subcircular line across the land. The outer bank has mostly vanished, swallowed by time or buried under the townland boundary that now cuts through it. What remains is enough to show that people lived here, defended here, and disappeared here while the marsh kept watching below.

On a low hill overlooking marshy land to the N. Subcircular rath (25.3m NE-SW; 22.3m NW-SE), in fair condition, defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank and fosse are visible all round. No visible surface trace survives of the outer bank from S through W to N and it is overlain by the townland boundary from N through E.
