What is recorded here
Caherbaroul is a roughly circular earthen ringfort in County Cork, Ireland. It sits inside a possible early ecclesiastical enclosure and has a substantial bank, deep external fosse, counterscarp bank, and a causewayed gap to the northwest. The interior slopes downward and holds cultivation ridges beside a shallow saucer-shaped depression. Two possible underground passages appear near the northeast bank, one beneath it and one outside it. The site is partly fenced, partly filled in, and still readable as a made place rather than a natural mound.
In pasture, in SE quadrant of possible early ecclesiastical enclosure (CO060-075001-). Roughly circular area (diam. c. 43m) defined by substantial earthen bank (int. H 1.8m) with deep, flat-bottomed external fosse and counterscarp bank (H 1m). Bank stone-faced in parts; top of bank replaced by earth and stone field fence ESE->S, fence continues along outer edge of bank top elsewhere. Counterscarp bank disturbed ESE->S where fosse almost completely filled in. Causewayed gap in bank to NW. Interior slopes down to SE; crossed by remains of cultivation ridges; much of SE half occupied by shallow saucer-shaped depression. Possible Man-made underground passage (CO060-075003-) under NE bank; second possible Man-made underground passage (CO060-075004-) outside NE bank.
