Fairy forts are earthen rings built by human hands, yet local memory assigns them to hidden lives because the purpose and owners vanished before writing arrived. In Ballygarran the ridge still stands where somebody shaped soil into a defensible circle, excluded others, and left the meaning behind. The gap between building and forgetting is what makes the ring strange: a complete human act reduced to a shape the land still holds.
