What is recorded here

Fairy forts are often called forts because people saw strong shapes before they understood the function. This one stood on Rose Hill in Ballyboy, large enough to hold a small dwelling, a workshop, or a place of refusal. It was marked on the 1838 map, weakened on the 1921 map, and levelled around 1980. The road was made where the edge of the world had already been drawn.

On 'Rose Hill' in grassland. The M18 now runs immediately to the SE. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a subcircular enclosure (c. 36m N-S; 32m E-W; c. 59m max. N-S); partially levelled by the time of the 1921 edition when the bank is only indicated from ESE to NNW. No visible surface trace survives. However, its outline is visible on the OSi Orthophoto.
