Graveyard in Eonish

Graveyard

Why this matters

A Neolithic ring tomb; significance not well documented due to lack of archaeological investigation.

What is recorded here

Large, slightly raised, roughly circular area (int. diam. c. 70.5m) enclosed by vague traces of a fosse and a much-levelled low earthen bank. Original entrance not recognisable. Not marked on any OS ed. Known locally as 'The Graveyard Field'. A holy well lies c. 30m to NE (CV019-031----). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
