What is recorded here
Situated on a low NW-SE spur. It is depicted only on the 1907 edition of the OS 6-inch map. This is a large subcircular grass-covered area (dims 71m NW-SE; 63m NE-SW) defined by a scarp (at NE: Wth 3.1m; H 1.45m) and hedge. An entrance is not identified, and a fosse (Wth c. 1.5m; D c. 0.6m) at N noted in the 1940s was not recorded in 1968 (SMR file). There is a farm track at the base of the scarp S-WNW, and farm buildings encroach on the interior at this side.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
