What is recorded here
On a plateau at the NE end of a ridge (long axis NE-SW), in improved pasture with excellent views across the landscape in all directions, although limited due to field boundaries and slightly higher ground to SW. This monument is not depicted on any OS historic mapping. It was noted on a Bing satellite image, http://binged.it/1qosCkB, taken 6 November 2011 and accessed 2 April 2014 (SMR file). It consists of a substantial oval area (50m N-S; 52m E-W) defined by an inner scarp (overall Wth 4m; overall H 0.5m) NW-NE. A gently sloping intervening berm (Wth 11m; H 0.65m) is located between the inner and outer scarp NW-NE. A short portion of the outer scarp (Wth 5m; H 1.15m) is distinct from the natural slope NW-NNW, however it blends into the steep slope NNW-NE, where it follows a contour at the top of a very steep N-facing slope. A single outer scarp of similar dimensions continues to define the monument NE-ESE. This continues as a levelled bank (int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.15m; Wth at top 2.5m; overall Wth 6.65m) ESE-WSW. On the ground, the remains of a levelled enclosing bank appears to turn (on the monument side of the field boundary) to complete the oval area WSW-NW. There is a possible entrance (Wth c. 4m) at ESE. There are traces of a fosse (Wth c. 2.7m) SE-W. The interior has a slightly uneven surface and slopes down gently to N, across the northern sector.
