Why this matters

A local fairy fort (ringfort/rath); wider significance not recorded.

What is recorded here

In gently rolling terrain on a valley floor, in tillage. There are good views in all directions as far as surrounding hills. This is not indicated on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map and an irregular area (diam. c. 56m), indicated by a dashed line running N of a WNW-ESE field boundary, is depicted at this location on the 1900 OS 6-inch map revision. At ground level it appears as a large shallow hollow. It is visible as a circular cropmark (overall diam. c. 70m), defined by a wide fosse (Wth c. 10m) on satellite imagery (© Google Earth, imagery date 8 June 2005). There appears to be a wide entrance (Wth c. 14m) in the E quadrant. See attached Google Earth image (imagery date 8 June 2005) Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 29 April 2020
