What is recorded here

On a N-facing slope, just below the crest of a ridge, in rolling terrain. Enclosure depicted on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map as a roughly oval area (dims. c. 31m NE-SW; c. 25m NW-SE) which tapers towards the SW (dims. c. 15m NW-SE). The enclosure is not indicated on the 1904-05 ed. 6-inch OS map. There is now a small disused quarry, overgrown with brambles and white thorn, at the location. The cartographic evidence suggests that the monument was levelled, however, it is possible that a cartographic error was made on the 1st ed. map and that a quarry should have been depicted instead of an enclosure. A quarry now occupies the area of the possible enclosure. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 21 January 2013
