What is recorded here

In low-lying, wet pasture, which is cut by land drains and watercourses, on the floodplain of the Camoge River. Ring-ditch (LI032-211----) lies 35m to NE. Depicted on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a semicircular-shaped earthwork (60m NE-SW; 38m NW-SE) enclosed by the canalised river running NNE-SSW to W and by a meander loop from N-E-SSW. Upstanding possible monument visible as a semicircular-shaped earthwork on OSi orthoimages taken 2005-2012, on Digital Globe orthoimages taken 2011-2013 and on Google Earth orthoimages taken 28/06/2018. Monument is enclosed by a townland boundary with Herbertstown (Powell) and Ballinscoola, which now forms a dry meander loop, after the river was canalised at this point. See attached Google Earth orthoimage. Compiled by: Alison McQueen and Vera Date of upload: 6 November 2020
