Enclosure in Duncummin

Enclosure

What is recorded here

On top of a very slight rise in gently undulating pasture. A possible field system is located 100m to the N. Originally circular (diam. c. 20m), the enclosure now consists of a roughly triangular area (dims. 10m N-S; 14m E-W) enclosed by a broad gently sloping scarp (Wth 3.4m; H 1m) from SSW-NNW. From NNW-E the scarp and a portion of the interior have been removed and the current edge of the enclosure is defined by a modern NW-SE orientated field bank. From E-SSW the scarped edge and a portion of the interior have also been removed and the current edge of the monument is defined by a modern NE-SW orientated irregular scarp. The interior undulates irregularly as if disturbed and is clear of overgrowth Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
