What is recorded here

On raised ground, sloping to the S, under grass. There are good views of Tramore Bay which lies c. 1.2km to the S. Identified during geophysical survey (Licence no. 20R0045) and confirmed by archaeological testing (Licence no. 20E0596) in advance of a proposed development (Coyne 2020, unpublished). An arc (N-SE) of a circular enclosure (diam. c. 32m) was revealed, defined by a fosse (Wth 1.4m; D 0.7m) which contained two fills sealed by a lens of charcoal (ibid. 13, 16, 33). Within the interior, which slopes to the S, a shallow charcoal-filled pit (dims. 1m x 0.9m; D 0.08m) was uncovered (ibid. 15). The S-SE edge of the enclosure is likely to have been truncated by a road running NW-SE which connects two roads extending NE from Tramore. Approximately 40m to the N two burial pits (WA026-095----; WA026-096----) were identified. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 25 January 2021
