What is recorded here
Half the circle vanished under cultivation, but the surviving quadrant still cuts across the grazing field like a forgotten compass point. The bank stands taller and wider than ordinary boundaries, suggesting it once enclosed something worth protecting rather than merely dividing land. That much has been taken, yet the curve remains visible on the south sloping hillside, holding its shape against forgetting.
'This enclosure survives as a quadrant of a circle in a reclaimed field now used for grazing, on a south sloping hillside which affords panoramic views from east through south to west. It is marked on the OS 3rd Ed 1938 map as a semi-circular enclosure which observed the existing field boundaries. One half of this site has been subsequently destroyed, however the line of the bank can still be traced on the ground, averaging 6.0m wide and 0.20m above existing ground surface. Overall dimensions of the site is 50m N-S by 25m E-W. This E-W measurement only reflects the existing site. No trace of the enclosure could be discerned in the field to the west, however this field has undergone reclaimation and intensive cultivation. The remaining bank of the enclosure still functions as a field boundary, and is 1.25m high by 5.0m wide. This bank is constructed of small stones and earth, and is considerably more substantial than any field boundary in this area.'
