Linked to Marian devotion, Our Lady's Well in Liberton was a site of pilgrimage and prayer, traditionally associated with healing and protection. The well and its chapel reflect a long-standing Catholic tradition in the area, predating the Reformation, and may have incorporated earlier pagan or pre-Christian water rituals.
