What is recorded here
Dundas Castle is a 15th-century stone tower house near South Queensferry, enlarged in the 19th century by William Burn into a Tudor-Gothic mansion with huge windows facing lawns and parkland. The Dundas family lived there from the Middle Ages, used it as a home and fortress, and left it behind only when Burn’s costly buildings drained their means. Oliver Cromwell is said to have stayed there before the Battle of Dunbar, and a statue of him still stands outside the Keep. The castle has since hosted weddings, wartime bridge defence and ordinary human ceremony, layering memory on memory.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Dundas Castle as Coin (roman), Patera (roman). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
