Frederick Douglass was a prominent African American leader who escaped slavery and became a renowned abolitionist, using his oratory and writings to advocate for the end of slavery and civil rights. His autobiography and speeches provided powerful accounts of life under slavery and were instrumental in the fight against racial injustice.
