Pollok Castle keeps a restless life west of Newton Mearns, appearing as Pook on Timothy Pont's map before fire, military use and decay stripped it to foundations. The family left it behind in 1944, stones vanished or were damaged, and a temporary house stood where the castle had faced the land. The 2003 building rests on part of the old north wall, so much of the castle still exists beneath a newer shape.
