Bardowie Castle is a medieval tower house built in 1566 that overlooks Bardowie Loch in East Dunbartonshire. The Clan Galbraith held the land from 1214 before John Hamilton of Cadzow acquired it, and later Thomas Buchanan of Spittal-Leny brought it into his family. Hugh Macdonald called it quiet and cosy in 1854, but modern owners have filled its ancient rooms with cinemas, gyms and saunas. The castle has changed hands repeatedly since the 20th century, yet its stone keep still stands above the loch like a stubborn memory of every family that claimed it.
